About

ITA Airways, wholly owned by Italy's Ministry of Economy and Finance, has operated in the air transport sector since November 2020. The airline strives to establish itself as an efficient and innovative carrier, enhancing Italy's connectivity with international destinations to boost tourism and foreign trade while also leveraging train-air integrated mobility domestically.

Focusing on sustainability and digitization, ITA Airways plans to expand its fleet to 105 modern, environmentally-friendly aircraft by the end of 2025, with 75% being new-generation models. Centered on its hubs at Rome Fiumicino and Milan Linate, the airline plans to launch with 44 destinations and 59 routes, expanding to 74 destinations and 89 routes by 2025 as part of a strategy to rebalance flights towards the long-haul sector and enhance the country’s connectivity.

Class of Travel

ITA Airways provides five distinct travel classes: Economy, Premium Economy, Superior, Business Class Medium Haul, and Business Class Long Haul. Each class is designed to meet diverse passenger needs, offering personalized services, enhanced comfort, and tailored meal options. Economy provides convenience and comfort, Premium Economy offers extra space, and Superior features a dedicated cabin with the adjacent seat left free, ensuring a more relaxing and enjoyable flight experience.

Business Class options deliver exceptional experiences with dedicated services both onboard and at airports. Business Class Medium Haul features Italian style and attention to detail, while Long Haul emphasizes luxury, gourmet cuisine, and advanced entertainment systems. All classes prioritize customer satisfaction through superior amenities and seamless connectivity throughout the journey.

Baggage Allowance

ITA Airways permits passengers to carry hand baggage weighing up to 8 kg with dimensions not exceeding 55 cm by 35 cm by 25 cm, including handles, side pockets and wheels. Additionally, one accessory, such as a handbag, work backpack, or laptop, is allowed. Passengers must verify baggage size and weight before boarding.

For checked baggage, the size must not exceed 158 cm (height + width + depth), and weight limits vary by class and destination, ranging from 23 kg to 32 kg. Economy Light allows no baggage, while Premium Economy and Superior classes typically permit two pieces of 23 kg each. Specific restrictions apply to certain items, and passengers are advised to consult the country’s consular authorities and label their luggage appropriately.

Volare Program

ITA Airways offers Volare, a loyalty program for travelers, allowing members to earn points for every euro spent on its flights and services. Registration is free and immediate. Members earn points according to their club level—Smart, Plus, Premium, or Executive—and redeem them to access exclusive club benefits. Point accelerators enhance earnings through destination, cabin, and fare selections.

Volare members can redeem points for Cash&Points flight tickets, seat selections, lounge access, and baggage purchases. Higher club levels provide exclusive benefits such as priority boarding, additional luggage, dedicated customer service, access to lounges owned by or made available to ITA Airways, free golf equipment and more.

In-flight Services

ITA Airways offers a comprehensive in-flight entertainment system featuring a wide array of Italian and international movies, popular TV series, diverse music playlists, and up-to-date news accessible on personal devices. Passengers can enjoy customized content on individual screens across all classes, with regular updates to ensure a fresh selection every two months.

Additionally, the airline provides robust connectivity services, including messaging, emailing, and internet browsing on long-haul and select short- to medium-haul flights. Special meal options are available for intercontinental and certain international flights, catering to medical, religious, and children's dietary needs. Passengers can easily book these meals through various channels prior to departure.

Check-in

ITA Airways encourages passengers to save time by checking in online via the ITA Airways App, available for iOS and Android. The online check-in process involves three steps: entering booking details, selecting additional services such as seat selection and baggage, and choosing how to receive the boarding pass. Selecting preferred seats may incur a small fee based on fare class.

Online check-in opens 48 hours before departure, or 24 hours for USA flights, and must be completed up to 1.5 hours before international and 45 minutes before domestic departures. Passengers with checked baggage can use special drop-off desks or Business Class desks. Assistance for unaccompanied minors and those requiring special support must be arranged at the airport.

Refund & Cancellation

ITA Airways allows passengers to manage flight changes and refunds effortlessly through its website and mobile app. Eligible tickets, identified by codes starting with 055, can be altered for travel dates if fare rules permit. Certain tickets, such as Volare Award or group bookings, require contacting the Customer Center.

In cases of delays or cancellations, ITA Airways adheres to Regulation (EC) No 261/2004, providing assistance and compensation when applicable. Passengers receive real-time updates via the app, Flights Info tool, email, or text. Cancellations offer alternatives like rebooking or refunds, while extraordinary circumstances exclude compensation.
